| Sea
Island Trellis takes painted fretwork motifs from Neo-Classical English
and Scandinavian manor houses and reinterprets them in a grand American
style. This versatile suite is made up of coordinating panel, trellis,
fan and a border that can be arranged in various ways to create trompe
l’oeil architecture. The full-scale panels feature open Chinoiserie
latticework and terminate in Palladian arches; the trellis is adorned with
rosettes that anchor the drafting in detail. The narrow decorative border
is especially flexible, adaptable to both vertical and horizontal applications.
Used as a column, the border serves to frame each panel elevation; as a
moulding strip, it gives the trellis a finished edge. Assembled straight
across the bottom of the panels, this element also creates a lacy grillework
effect.
Printed in the style of English ingrain paper, with stippled bands of
pigment producing the effect of shadow, the Sea Island facades appear
truly dimensional. This quality is at work in all the papers, revealing
the kind of tactile depth that is at the heart of Fischer’s painting. |
