THE
PERFECT HOLIDAY GREETING — Fischer
has been honored by The White
House Historical Association, which asked him to
create their holiday
greeting card for 2009 (right). The card depicts the first White House
Christmas Tree to be illuminated by electric lights, which was during the
second presidency of Grover Cleveland (1893-1897). The modern watercolor
rendition recreates the view of the tree from the South Lawn — the tree glows
through the tall window of the second-floor Oval Room, just beyond the columns
of the South Portico during an evening snowfall. The Christmas tree was an
important part of the holiday celebrations for President Cleveland’s young
family. (The White House Historical Association was founded in 1961 through
the efforts of First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy to provide funding for the preservation
of the state rooms of The White House and its collection of fine and decorative
arts. Click
